Organ Scholar 2026
St. John’s Anglican Church is looking to strengthen our worship experiences. We are currently focusing on recruiting and training a core of competent musicians to expand and consolidate the music ministry at St John’s.
We are offering an adult scholarship for a candidate interested in learning to play the organ and to become part of the music programs of the church. The church has a new substantial three manual organ available. No experience as an organist is necessary, but candidates should be able to play the piano at around 5th -6th grade standard. A background in the Anglican tradition would be preferable.
• The position attracts a package valued at $5700.00 and includes the following:
o A weekly one-hour lesson with a specialist organ teacher for the full 2025 academic year;
o Additional funding to support regular experiences outside the Wagga Wagga area on a large pipe organ as part of the teaching program; and training in hymn playing and accompaniment for choral singing.
• When skills permit, the scholar will start supervised playing in church and will receive the standard associate organists’ remuneration.
• The scholar contracts to be part of the music ministry at St John’s for one year following the completion of the scholarship.
• At the end of the scholarship, the scholar who reaches a satisfactory level of competence should expect to be offered a contract as associate organist. In that case, further opportunities to play at weddings and funerals also offer extra remuneration.
• Our Scholar will have access to the organ and the concert grand piano at St John’s for practice and rehearsal.
The Organ scholar at St Johns will be accountable to and supported by the Director of Music along with the organ teacher.
Please direct your questions and enquiries to Kim Hoey at the church office by phone (02 6921 574) or email (office@waggaanglican.org.au). Applications must be with us by Friday 30 January 2026.
